The Boss DS-1 is probably the most commonly seen pedal on a rig. It is inexpensive, carries with it a reputable name and hey it say’s “distortion” right? Well some think that it does produce some nice distortion the common complaints are that it is brittle, lacking in big bottom end, clarity and has a power filtering issues providing most of them with little headroom before noise settles right in. Our DS-1 “Walduvian Dream” mod takes care of all of these problems and provides a huge range of tonal quality’s while raising the signal and knocking out the noise with a huge resistive right cross.

In this our second in a series of mods for the ever popular Boss DS-1 we again drop the noise floor, increase the bass response and raise the input volume. We also make the distortion much more tubey as well as offering an optional selectable distortion allowing for the player to choose from either a modified, beefed up DS-1 sound or a huge gain sound that sags and woofs beyond belief. Any way you slice it the Maelstrom Box is made for sucking you into a solo.

Aaaah the Boss DS-1 always a favorite to mod and one almost every guitarist has owned or currently has in their possession. We love this little guy…as awkward as he may be out of the box with a few tweaks in the right direction you to can have a beast that can compete with the big boys. Our “Cygnus” mod for the Boss DS-1 lets this otherwise very stock pedal take flight.
