Gate to Oblivion ~ audio sample

http://austinhotmods.com/wp-content/audio%20samples/Gate%20to%20Oblivion.mp3

I remember when I first started playing I had a very good friend of mine who was a metal prodigy.  It was truly frightening.  He picked the guitar up one day…obsessively starting doing nothing but playing and in months was tackling the Guitar Grimoire series of instructional boos and playing insane metal leads.  His fingers flew nimbly and his precision with a Floyd Rose was immaculate, but boy howdy I remember when he would turn on that BOSS Metal Zone MT-2. It was like someone had taken his guitar, loaded it into a shotgun and fired it. It was an incredible sound.  But his complaints and the common ones from most players I have worked with over the years is that the sound is too artificial and cold, it needs more dynamic range and harmonic distortion and of course the noise floor once input is cranked.  Well with the MT-2 “Gates of Oblivion” mod you get all of this.  We have cleaned the power and boosted input impedance to further separate between clean and effected signals.  We added more range in the tone department both in lows and mids and managed to bring down the uncomfortable highs that can tend to get out of hand on the stock models. Finally we increased the amount of harmonic distortion allowing for pristine pinch harmonics and the signature “squidilly diddly doos” that your fingers can muster as they melt from the fires in the “Gates of Oblivion.”

Our second mod available for the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone is the “Sorcerer Supreme”.  In this mod we again tweak the EQ to bring out some of the harsh highs and enhance the bass range as well as the overall input range. We also add into this mod a selectable distortion allowing the player the option of a somewhat tweaked version of the MT-2 distortion with an LED showing the distortion as you play or a full out portal to the Netherworld with dual LEDs showing your the full force of your string shredding status.  Either way it is a sound that only a true sonic wizard can wield.

So at this point I have both the modded boss ds-1 and the os-2. Neither pedal in its original form ever interested me but damn! The ds-1 now sounds more like a big muff but with the sound of tubes sagging to perfection. I use this one for single note phrasing mostly. The os-2 i got for chords. It goes anywhere from light overdrive to…I can't even describe it. Face melting for sure but the clarity and note separation! Anyone who hasn't heard these is missing out!
